The International Cricket Council says Kolkata has replaced Dharamsala as the venue for the high-profile World Twenty20 game between India and Pakistan.
ICC chief executive David Richardson made the announcement on Wednesday at a media conference after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had expressed security worries over the venue for the March 19 showdown.
The PCB raised concerns after Virbhadra Singh, the chief minister of the provincial government of Himachal Pradesh, said he would not be able to provide adequate security for the match in the hill city.
The PCB sent a three-member delegation on Monday to assess the security arrangements in Dharamsala in northern India, then asked the ICC to change the venue.
"Safety and security of the event is of paramount importance to ICC," Richardson told reporters.
Pakistan had delayed the departure of their men's and women's teams while awaiting the ICC's response.
