Palestine to debut at Asian Cup

The Palestinian national team will play its first match at the 2015 Asian Cup.

The Palestinian football team arrives at Sydney airport.

For some nations, qualifying for this year's Asian Cup was a walk in the park.

But in the Palestinian territories, football parks can be hard to come by.

The Palestinian national football team was only officially recognised by FIFA in 1998 and has only ever played five games at home -- the rest on the road.

Many of its top players are drawn from far flung Palestinian diasporas and each has a unique story that led them to the national team.

Among them is Jaka Ihbeisheh who was born in Europe to a Slovenian mother and Palestinian father.

He spoke with SBS football analyst Scott McIntyre about his story, and the Palestinians' hopes as they play in their first ever Asian Cup.
