Clive Palmer has apologised to Queenslanders for now-independent senator Glenn Lazarus letting them down.

The Palmer United Party leader has written in a letter to voters that his party planned to use its balance of power in the Senate to achieve real change for Queensland "but Glenn Lazarus put an end to that and betrayed all those who voted for our party", News Limited reported on Monday.

Mr Palmer has also reportedly warned potential PUP candidates for the federal election they'll have to pay back all money spent on their campaign if they win a seat then quit the party, as Senator Lazarus and fellow independent Jacqui Lambie have done.
