Palmer signs new two-year Giants AFL deal

Forward Rhys Palmer has signed a new two-year AFL contract to stay with Greater Western Sydney until at least the end of the 2017 season.

Greater Western Sydney forward Rhys Palmer has signed a new two-year contract to remain at the Giants until at least the end of the 2017 AFL season.

Palmer has had another impressive year for GWS, playing his 100th AFL game in round four and kicking a career-high five goals against Port Adelaide in round 20.

The 26-year old joined the Giants as an uncontracted player ahead of the 2012 season following 53 games with Fremantle, since adding another 56 matches for GWS, taking his career tally to 109.

Palmer adds his name to a long list of Giants to re-commit this year including Jeremy Cameron, Dylan Shiel, Devon Smith, Stephen Coniglio, Phil Davis, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Matt Buntine, Aidan Corr and Zac Williams.

Palmer said he was thrilled be part of the Giants' push up the ladder.

"I'm really settled here in Sydney, we have a great group of boys and I love where the club is heading so I'm happy to re-sign for another two years," Palmer said.

"The club is in terrific shape with a lot of good people involved and I'm looking forward to the future here and seeing how far we can go."

Chief Executive David Matthews welcomed Palmer's re-signing.

"Rhys was one of the first players to sign with the Giants and he's re-committed to the club because he can see the direction we're heading in and he wants to be a part of it," Matthews said.

"We've had our best season yet on the field with 11 wins so far, our crowds and membership are up and we've had the vast majority of our out-of-contract players re-sign."

Head coach Leon Cameron said Palmer was an invaluable member of the Giants.

"Rhys has become an integral part of our team and adds great leadership and pressure to our young forward line and we're delighted he's re-signed."
