Rod Pampling is wobbling and fellow veteran Australian Geoff Ogilvy surging as they strive to break long US PGA Tour title droughts.

Bidding for his first victory since the Bay Hill International a decade ago, Pampling lost his halfway lead in Las Vegas after carding a third-round even-par 71 to fall one stroke behind American Lucas Glover.

Glover's six-under 65 on Saturday propelled him to 15 under, one shot ahead of Pampling and American Brookes Koepka,, with Ogilvy the big mover up the leaderboard.

The former US Open champion, trying to win a stroke play event in America for the first time since the 2010 Tournament of Champions, fired a five-under 66 to be 13 under and just two off the lead.

Ogilvy ran off four straight birdies late in his round in the tournament, which looks set for a bumper finish with 20 players separated by four shots going into the final round on Sunday (Monday AEDT).

Pampling and Glover both had to go back to the Web.com Tour Finals two seasons ago to regain their full tour cards.

While it has been since 2011 that Glover last won, Pampling hasn't won anywhere since the 2008 Australian Masters.

"I'm not going to lie, there was a little bit of tension early on," Pampling said.

"They guys who are a long way back go low because they're not protecting a little bit. Obviously, I don't think we can protect tomorrow, but I feel good.

"Just go out there and let it go and just hope juices are good. It's nice to have them."
