Panachaikos has announced that they are withdrawing from the Greek second division with immediate effect because of the "criminal behaviour of referees and biased rulings of sports authorities against the team."
In a declaration sent to the Football League governing council on Tuesday, the team's president Alexis Kougias said "criminal behaviour of all those involved have led us to financial stagnation with no hope ever to be promoted to the Super League."
Panachaikos, founded 122 years ago and which played for 17 years in the top division, took the action after a 4-0 loss to Panegialios over the weekend in which the club announcement "acts of terrorism took place by the referee and the henchmen opponents."
"Our players were unconscious in the bus from the use of chemicals by the police against hooligans in order to allow us access to the stadium, an organised plan by the administration and fans of Panegialios to terrorize our players," the announcement said.
Panachaikos - who are presently sixth in the second tier - said no action was taken by officials and the league's observer in the match over the incidents.
No immediate response has come from the Football League.
