Hooker James Segeyaro could be the latest Panther lumbered with a season-ending injury after suffering an ankle complaint late in Penrith's gripping 23-22 win over North Queensland on Monday night.
Segeyaro left the field in the 68th minute in the round 23 NRL match against his former club after falling awkwardly in a tackle from Ashton Sims and didn't return.
With Peter Wallace, Tyrone Peachey, Elijah Taylor, Bryce Cartwright, and Isaac John all sidelined until 2015, Panthers coach Ivan Cleary said he feared Segeyaro might have suffered a recurrence of a broken ankle from his days in Townsville.
"He broke that ankle quite badly a couple of years ago, I think, when he was at the Cowboys," Cleary said.
"It might be something to do with that. Hopefully it's not too bad. We won't know until tomorrow.
"We haven't given up on him yet. We're probably due a bit of luck in the injury stakes. We've got a pretty fair back-up in Kevin Kingston as well.
"Our depth has been tested the last few weeks, right through the season. We're probably due a bit of luck there. Fingers crossed."
Segeyaro will undergo scans on Tuesday, the results of which should be known later in the day.
The win over the Cowboys, with playmaker Jamie Soward leading the way, puts the Panthers into third spot on 32 points, guaranteeing them a finals berth.
They host Melbourne at home again on Monday night in another match that will be crucial in the final make-up of the top eight.
