Penrith have been given a massive boost ahead of their elimination NRL final against Manly with fullback Dylan Edwards set to return from a knee injury.

Edwards, who was considered a touch-and-go prospect at the start of the week, has not played since he suffered a grade-two medial ligament tear against St George Illawarra in round 25.

Though heavily strapped, he got through training unscathed late this week and coach Anthony Griffin expects him to run out at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.

"He's doing good. He's got through yesterday and today so it looks like he will play," Griffin said.

"It's a great result for Dylan, us as a team and for him to be back this early.

"We thought he was going to be 3-4 weeks, but he's back within two so it's a credit to him and our medical staff."

Edwards has been a revelation for the Panthers at No.1 this year, with the team having won 10 of the 14 games he has played.

He is the club's leading metre-eater at an average of 170 per game, and he has also busted through 69 tackles.

His return is a massive blessing for the Panthers, who threatened to have their backline decimated by injuries and unavailabilities.

Centre Waqa Blake was ruled out for the season on Friday morning with a shoulder injury suffered in last week's loss to Manly, while captain Matt Moylan is still on personal leave.

Dean Whare will now shift from fullback to the centres where he has played the majority of his football.
