Penrith firebrand Jack Hetherington is facing the third suspension of his NRL career, despite having played just 12 matches.

The Panthers forward appears set to spend the next fortnight on the sidelines after being charged with a careless high tackle on AJ Brimson in Saturday's win over the Gold Coast.

Hetherington's only chance of taking the field before the last round of the competition is if he contests the charge at the judiciary.

He will be spend two weeks on the sidelines if he accepts an early guilty plea and will be rubbed out for three games should he fight the charge and lose.

Hetherington was sin-binned for the high shot.

The 22-year-old is set for a hefty stint out because of loading and carryover points as a result of his poor record - he has been charged five times over the past two years in the NRL, NSW Cup and under-20s.

He has already been suspended twice this year.

He was banned for dangerous contact on North Queensland's Shaun Fenson in round nine and then three weeks later he was sat out for another week for a leg pull on St George Illawarra's Paul Vaughan.
