Panthers reclaim spiritual NRL home

Penrith will play their home matches at Panthers Stadium next year, sacrificing sponsorship dollars for naming rights.

Penrith have opted to shun sponsorship dollars in favour of naming rights to their NRL home ground from next year onwards.

The NRL club on Tuesday announced Pepper Stadium would be known as Panthers Stadium in 2018 following the end of their partnership with Pepper Money.

The development is a shift away from the commercialised grounds across the league in recent years, with the Wests Tigers' Leichhardt Oval the only unsponsored NRL home.

Panthers Group chairman Dave O'Neill said they had decided to retain the naming rights and instead chose to invest heavily in their own brand.

"In retaining the naming rights, Panthers intends to use the reach of the NRL to further promote the Panthers brand both nationally and overseas," O'Neill said.

"This is a significant commitment from Panthers to the Penrith region, the game of rugby league and the members who have shared so many special moments at our beloved home ground over the last five decades.

"We look forward to adding another memorable chapter to our club's proud history as the Panthers take the field at Panthers Stadium in 2018."

The last time the old Penrith Park was without a sponsor was in 2005, when it was known as Penrith Football Stadium.
