Panthers to grant Harawira-Naera a release

Penrith will allow second-rower Corey Harawira-Naera to break his contract and join a rival NRL club on a long-term deal.

Penrith back-rower Corey Harawira-Naera has been granted permission to break his contract at season's end to join another NRL club on a long-term deal.

The 23-year-old will leave the Panthers at the end of this season's finals campaign with two years two years left to run on his deal; with Canterbury reportedly his destination.

"Firstly, it's a matter of future salary cap management for our club. Secondly, it is such a wonderful opportunity for Corey with his new club," Panthers general manager Phil Gould said in a statement on Monday.
