PaperlinX requests suspension extension

PaperlinX is still assessing the impact of the placement of its UK companies in voluntary administration on its other European operations.

Paper supplier PaperlinX has asked that the suspension of its shares from trading on the Australian stock market be extended.

PaperlinX on Wednesday said it was still assessing the impact of the placement of its UK companies in voluntary administration on its other European operations.

The company said its financing arrangements and supply chain in Europe were interconnected.

Also, Paperlinx is considering the potential sale of its Benelux operations.

The company said it did not expect to receive any direct material benefit from a sale or realisation of Benelux or any other European business.

But the sale proceeds or realisation were expected to benefit other European stakeholders.

PaperlinX has requested that the voluntary suspension of its shares be extended to April 16 or when an announcement is made by the company if earlier.

The company placed its UK paper merchanting and Visual Technology Solutions businesses in administration at the start of April, blaming lower demand for paper and a fall in margins, substantial legacy pension liabilities, and the withdrawal of credit insurance.

PaperlinX said it did not expect any financial improvement in the UK group and it was not in the company's best interests to continue to support the UK's trading losses or to fund significant restructuring activities.
