Four of their next eight opponents are below their 16th position in the standings and Pardew is keen to pick up points quickly and avoid getting caught in a relegation battle.
"Confidence is obviously a little bit low at the moment. We need a win and hopefully we will get that as quick as we can," he told a news conference.
"There are a lot of experienced managers down the bottom of the league, all chasing at the moment just to get up the league.
"So, for us, the immediate concern is to halt this run... to try and attack in the top 10, if possible."
Pardew returns to management for the first time since being sacked by Crystal Palace in December 2016 and becomes West Brom's sixth full-time boss since 2011.
West Brom chairman John Williams said the 56-year-old, who was named the Premier League's manager of the year for guiding Newcastle United to fifth in the 2011-12 season, was the unanimous choice for the job.
"Alan brings the experience of more than 300 Premier League games and the kind of dynamic leadership from which our club can benefit," he said.
John Carver, Pardew's former assistant at Newcastle, will join the backroom staff, with Gary Megson, who took temporary charge following Pulis' dismissal, leaving the club.
Pardew will take charge of his first game on Saturday and comes up against basement side Palace, who he guided to 10th in the 2014-15 season for their best Premier League finish and followed that up with a 15th-placed finish.
