Parfitt in career-best goalscoring form

Brandan Parfitt and the other Geelong forwards could enjoy another day out on Saturday against Gold Coast.

Geelong forward Brandan Parfitt is spoilt for role models as he makes the seemingly inevitable transformation from highly-rated youngster to AFL star.

Parfitt, 20, was among several Cats attackers to cash in during last weekend's 133-point demolition of Fremantle, kicking a career-high four goals in his 32nd senior match.

Ahead of what shapes as an 11th finals campaign in the space of 12 years, eighth-placed Geelong round out the home and away season with another GMHBA Stadium encounter against lowly opposition in Gold Coast on Saturday.

In coming years, Parfitt will spend more and more time in the midfield.

But right now the silky-skilled Northern Territorian is happy to bide his time behind the likes of Joel Selwood, Patrick Dangerfield, first-year sensation Tim Kelly and Gary Ablett.

"From a team point of view, my main role now is in the front half," Parfitt told AAP.

"I'm probably getting about two minutes a quarter in the midfield so I can chip in there a little bit.

"But there are obviously so many guns in front of me for those midfield positions right now."

Prominent among them is Ablett, a two-time Brownlow medallist whom Parfitt idolised as a youngster.

Ablett torched Gold Coast with a 37-possession, three-goal, best afield performance back in round 11, the first time he had played against his former club since returning home for a second stint at Geelong.

"I saw glimpses of it earlier in the year but that was probably the first game where Gary really turned it on for four quarters," said Parfitt.

"I just marvel at him and appreciate what I've got as a teammate.

"I've been around to his house a few times for dinner.

"He's such a super footballer but he's an even better bloke.

"He's not afraid to give you feedback and show you what you are doing well and what you're not."

Similarly, when Parfitt needs any help on enhancing his forward craft he need look no further than spearhead Tom Hawkins, who sits four goals behind Richmond's Jack Riewoldt in the race for the Coleman Medal.

"He's pretty much the captain of the forward group," said Parfitt.

"He's been massive for me - always letting me know what I can improve on and talking all day.

"He's moving really well and kicking heaps of goals.

"He's full of confidence and it's gives me a boost too when he's clunking marks and kicking big bags."
