Paris to announce 2024 Olympic Games bid

Paris is set to Rome, Boston and Hamburg as an official bidder to host the 2024 Olympic Games.

Paris will officially announce its bid next week for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Paris promoters say they will meet on Tuesday at French Olympic Committee headquarters. Bid leaders Tony Estanguet, Bernard Lapasset and Etienne Thobois will lay out the details of the French project.

The bid announcement will coincide with Olympic Day on June 23, the day the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was founded in Paris in 1894.

Paris will join Rome, Boston and Hamburg as declared bidders, with Budapest also expected to enter the picture.

The deadline for submissions is September 15. The IOC will select the host city in 2017.

Paris last hosted the Olympics in 1924. It mounted failed bids for the 1992, 2008 and 2012 Games.
