Wests Tigers have appointed Justin Pascoe as the NRL club's new CEO.

The announcement appeared imminent earlier on Thursday when Penrith released a statement saying Pascoe had tendered his resignation as the Panthers' head of rugby league.

Pascoe, who had been in the Penrith role since the end of last season, had reportedly been interviewed last week to take up the CEO's role at Concord vacated earlier this year by Grant Mayer.

Pascoe began as the Panthers' chief commercial officer in 2012 and was promoted after the departure of then CEO Phil Moss.

Ironically, Moss became the interim CEO of the Tigers and was understood to have been interviewed for the ongoing role.

Pascoe joins the club in a tumultuous period.

The Tigers might finish last this season, have struggled financially and have had to deal with the fallout of attempting to force their captain Robbie Farah out of the club.

It had taken the Tigers three months to find their man, however club chair Marina Go described Pascoe as the best candidate for the job.

"Justin's experience both here in Australia and overseas across a number of positions means that he brings a unique set of skills to Wests Tigers," she said.

"And we look forward to him joining the club and working with us to achieve the lofty goals set out in our strategic plan.

"The appointment of Justin is another step that the club has made towards building a winning culture that is focused on performance outcomes.

"We are committed to building a successful club that will compete for premierships."
