Passenger numbers up for Virgin Australia

Virgin Australia increased its number of domestic and international passengers in September.

Virgin Australia's passenger numbers rose in September, and the average airfare revenue per traveller has also improved.

Domestic passengers were up 2.2 per cent to 1.47 million, while its international business carried 233,148 passengers, up 5.2 per cent from a year ago.

In total, passenger numbers grew by 2.6 per cent in September, and for the year to date are up by 5.2 per cent to 5.28 million.

Yield - or the average airfare per passenger - in the year to September was higher than in the previous corresponding period, Virgin Australia said.

Its shares were steady at 41.5 cents on Monday.
