Pat Perez has opened up his lead at the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur to four shots after firing an eight-under-par 64 in Friday's third round.

The American, looking for his third career victory on the PGA Tour, carded nine birdies against one bogey, having improved by one shot in every round so far.

Japan's Hideki Matsuyama's nine-under 63 was the lowest score of the day in the Malaysian capital and took him into a tie for fourth alongside American Keegan Bradley.

Perez finished strongly with birdies on four of the last five holes, including a 17-foot putt at the par-3 15th.

Australian Cameron Smith is in a tie for 15th after a one-over-par 73 in the third round to be eight under overall. He is 13 shots behind Perez.
