Patients recalled to Hobart hospital

A medical procedure used to check for signs of bowel cancer may have overlooked problems in a number of Hobart tests.

Patients who underwent a colonoscopy at a Hobart hospital are being urged to repeat the procedure amid fears it was flawed.

Those at risk had the procedure performed by the late Dr Hugh Jackson between November 2017 and May at Calvary Lenah Valley Hospital, when a section of the bowel might not have been properly examined.

"The overall risk for the entire group of patients in the period we are concerned about is low," Calvary spokesman Matt Hanrahan said on Tuesday, adding that undergoing the procedure again is precautionary and affected patients will be contacted.
