Patrick Harris accused of swearing at fan

A representative of Neil Patrick Harris denies the actor swore at a fan from the stage on Broadway during a performance of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Neil Patrick Harris' representative has played down reports suggesting the actor cursed at an audience member who interrupted him during a performance of his Broadway show.

The How I Met Your Mother star was said to have yelled an expletive after a female fan shouted "I love you Neil!" while he was performing in Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

However, a representative for the actor has now explained Harris stayed in character and improvised, much to the amusement of the audience.

The spokesperson told Gossipcop website the response to the yelling fan was done in character.

"When the fan initially yelled, 'I love you, Neil,' Neil (as Hedwig) then responded, 'Who's Neil? I'm not Neil'," the spokesperson said.

"He then looked over at (his castmate) and said, 'Are you Neil? You better not be Neil'," the spokesperson said.

"The audience went crazy and it really was a light-hearted moment."
