Every player is tradeable.

Melbourne coach Paul Roos made the bold declaration to his players after they finished the AFL season with a 30-point loss to North Melbourne on Saturday night.

There was no malice or blithe to the statement, indeed it was the same matter-of-fact line that Roos delivered to the Sydney Swans at the end of every season under his reign.

But it was a clear sign of intent from Roos as to how he will attack the off-season frenzy.

"I think every club is the same," he said after the club finished the season with a 10th straight defeat.

"We'll try and get the best possible list we can get. We need to improve."

The recruitment of talented on-ballers Dom Tyson and Bernie Vince headlined a successful trade period for the Demons in 2013.

Roos suggested the Demons' midfield would once again be his main focus in the draft and trade period.

"You protect your defence and give forwards a lot more opportunities if you've got a high-quality midfield group," he said.

"You can only be as aggressive (in trade period) as other teams let you - you can't trade with yourself.

"Some clubs are easy to deal with and some aren't."

Roos had no idea whether free agent James Frawley played his last game for the club on Saturday.

"There's been no signs that he's put the cue in the rack. He's trained hard, played to the last minute and that's all I can ask," he said.

"If he does leave, we wish him well. If he doesn't, we'll be rapt.

"We'll continue discussions with him."
