Pavlich has faith in Morabito at Freo

Matthew Pavlich's future beyond 2015 in the AFL with Fremantle remains unclear.

Matthew Pavlich can't confirm if he will continue as Fremantle captain or if his AFL career will last beyond 2015.

But he is confident Anthony Morabito and Colin Sylvia can still have an impact despite pre-season setbacks.

Pavlich is entering his 16th AFL season and is likely to remain captain for a ninth year as the 33-year-old builds on a 313-game career that already has him as Fremantle's finest ever player.

But the captaincy hasn't yet been decided nor does he know if he would like to play on in 2016 or not.

He has taken part in Fremantle's pre-season fully without injury or surgery, but the same can't be said for teammates most notably Morabito and Sylvia.

Morabito has been limited to 26 AFL matches due to three knee reconstructions already and the 23-year-old is battling deterioration to cartilage in his knee meaning he hasn't been able to train with Fremantle's main group during pre-season.

He might require minor surgery to put him on the sidelines for up to a month, but Pavlich knows this minor setback shouldn't be too difficult to overcome after what Morabito already dealt with to return in 2014.

"I've seen him frustrated for a number of years. Anyone that's had the history that he's had with his knees and other areas of his body, but particularly his knees obviously, understandably he's had frustrations," Pavlich said.

"What I do know about Anthony is that he is a really resilient character and he will work through the rehab like he has been diligently to get back out there soon."

Sylvia joined Fremantle as a free agent in 2014 following a rollercoaster 157-game career with Melbourne

His Dockers career didn't get off to a good start with him only playing six AFL games and battling form, fitness and discipline issues.

The 29-year-old had ankle surgery following the 2014 season but has remained sidelined from training with the main group the entire pre-season raising questions over his ability to again play AFL football.

Pavlich hasn't lost faith in him though.

"He is in rehab and we are hoping to see him out with the main group soon," Pavlich said.

"He has been progressing well and he's stepped up his running the last week or two and hopefully he can get back out with us in that main group shortly."
