Pearson can do what she likes: Moneghetti

Australia's chef de mission says a tight athletics schedule in Glasgow could influence whether Sally Pearson competes in the 100m sprint and relay events.

If champion hurdler Sally Pearson doesn't want to run in the 100m flat at the Commonwealth Games, that's fine by Australia's team boss.

Pearson this week would not commit to the sprint or the 4x100m, saying she would focus on the 100m hurdles event, in which she is the reigning Commonwealth and Olympic champion.

Australia's chef de mission Steve Moneghetti said the decision rested solely with Pearson.

"We'll have Sally tell us. She can do whatever she likes," he told AAP.

Moneghetti said he saw Pearson compete at the Diamond League meet in Glasgow at the weekend and thought she ran well.

The 27-year-old ran 12.87s to finish third, a fair way off her 12.59s best run this season and personal best of 12.28s.

The Commonwealth Games' tight schedule will likely influence whether Pearson will take on multiple events, Moneghetti said.

"Maybe it's harder to go through heats, semis and finals through both events here," he said.

Pearson, who has been overcoming a hamstring injury, has said although she wants to compete in the sprint events, she would not decide until just before the events.
