Sally Pearson has withdrawn from a second Diamond League athletics meet in as many weeks due to ongoing hamstring problems.
Just three days after pulling out of the Rome event, the Australian Olympic gold medallist announced on Monday night that she wouldn't be competing in New York this week and instead concentrate on strength work with next month's Commonwealth Games in mind.
"The team think it is appropriate to do some extra strength work on my hamstrings before the Commonwealth Games as a precaution to ensure I can complete my whole program," Pearson said on her website Kwikchik.
"The twitch in Rome was a warning that I still have a little work to do."
"I will now get into some high quality recovery/training, and get back into shape."
Pearson, who has a long history of hamstring issues, injured herself in the warm-up for the 100m hurdles in Rome on Friday and promptly told organisers of her withdrawal.
She later played down the injury, insisting there was no hamstring tear but just tightness and the decision was a precautionary one.
It was to be the first race of Pearson's European season with an eye to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow starting on July 23.
The 27-year-old plans to compete in the 100m hurdles, 100m flat and 4x100m relay in the Scottish city.
Pearson is the reigning Commonwealth Games 100m hurdle gold medallist and was a hot favourite in the 100m flat at the Delhi Games in 2010 but false started.
She faces tough competition in Glasgow against multiple world and Olympic 100m flat champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
