Sally Pearson has won her first 100m hurdles race since finishing a courageous second at the world championships, claiming victory in wet conditions at the Gugl Games meet in Austria.

Pearson's winning time of 12.82 seconds on Monday night was well shy of the 12.50 she ran when claiming silver behind flying American Brianna Rollins in Moscow earlier this month.

The reigning Olympic champion was a clear winner at the Gugl Games, with France's Reina-Flor Okori finishing second in 13.17 and German Nadine Hildebrand and American Kellie Wells tying for third in 13.20.

Pearson - who made a belated start to her 2013 campaign after suffering two serious hamstring injuries - will contest three more meets in Europe before returning to Australia.

Ben St Lawrence was third in the 3000m in Linz in seven minutes 47.16 seconds, with countrymen Collis Birmingham and Brett Robinson finishing fifth and 12th respectively.

In other action, American sprinter Justin Gatlin won the 100m in 10.08 ahead of Jamaica's Nickel Ashmeade.

Gatlin had finished second behind Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt at the world titles in Russia.

"Today my legs were tired," said Gatlin, who announced before the race he was going to attack the track record of 9.92.

"I promise I'll break the Gugl record next year."

World record holder Aries Merritt of the United States beat 2008 Olympic champion Dayron Robles by 0.23 to take the 110m hurdles in 13.26.

Olympic and world champion Renaud Lavillenie of France failed to register a height in a pole vault competition won by his younger brother Valentin, who had a best clearance of 5.63m.

Barbara Pierre won the women's 100m in 11.14 ahead of Charonda Williams and Alexandra Anderson in an American podium sweep.
