Pedestrian hit in Sydney CBD peak hour

A pedestrian, believed to be a man, has been left in a critical condition after an accident involving two cars in Sydney's CBD during peak hour.

A pedestrian is fighting for life after being hit by a car on one of Sydney's busiest CBD streets during peak hour.

Police said the accident on George St involved two cars and occurred just after 8am on Friday.

Witnesses say emergency services performed CPR on a man unconscious on the road in front of Event Cinemas.

"Police tried to help him out with the heart beat," waiter Brandon told AAP.

The injured pedestrian has been taken to St Vincent's Hospital in a critical condition, police said.

A shoe, hat, shirt and newspaper were left scattered on the road as officers took away two drivers for mandatory blood testing.

George St has been closed in both directions between Bathurst and Liverpool streets as a result of the accident, Transport management centre officials said.
