New Zealand Breakers shooting guard Corey Webster's hopes of making it into the NBA have advance a step with New Orleans inviting him to attend their training camp.
The invitation comes after the 26-year-old Tall Black spent three days working out with the Pelicans' coaching team and available players over the past week.
"I'm not there yet, but this is another positive step towards my dream of playing in the NBA," Webster said.
"The past week has gone well and the coaches have been impressed enough by the work-outs to want me to stay for the training camp on a non-guaranteed contract."
Webster said it was up to him to prove his value to the Pelicans, and he would put his head down and give it his best shot.
"I came here this week with a three day-window to impress," he said.
"This has bought me more time and a chance to take the jump into the actual NBA roster."
Webster will stay on in New Orleans and work with the Pelicans coaching staff until the four-day camp starting at the end of the month.
Breakers chief executive Richard Clarke said the ANBL champions would continue to monitor Webster's with interest and excitement.
"We're thrilled for Corey but understand that this is just another small step along the way," he said.
Clarke said there would be no decisions about a long-term replacement for Webster in the Breakers squad until there was some certainty about his future.
