Pendlebury could equal Bucks' AFL record

Collingwood AFL skipper Scott Pendlebury is well-placed to win a record-equalling sixth best and fairest award for the Magpies.

With his 250th AFL game approaching, Collingwood skipper Scott Pendlebury is poised to cement his status as one of the Magpies' greatest players.

Pendlebury can equal the record for most club best and fairest awards if he continues to perform in the second half of what has been a disappointing season for the Magpies.

With five Copeland Trophy wins to his name, Pendlebury currently sits level with 1972 Brownlow medallist Len Thompson.

A sixth nod would place him equal with coach Nathan Buckley and add to a career already filled with accolades.

Pendlebury is the only Magpies player in the top 10 of the AFL Coaches Association voting tally after 15 rounds, although Jeremy Howe and Brodie Grundy have also been influential.

The 29-year-old Pendlebury has had a remarkably consistent career - only St Kilda champion Nick Riewoldt (six) has won more club best-and-fairest awards among active players.

"I just try and prepare well every week and give myself the best chance to perform and play my role for the side," Pendlebury said on Monday.

"It's important to me and it was when I was a lot younger - obviously every player is going to have good days - but when you have those bad ones, that you're still serviceable.

"I think the majority of the time, I'm able to play my role when I'm not having a really good one."
