Joe Hockey is warning Australia is at an "unsustainable risk" from high personal taxes, which he says need to be reduced to create jobs and foster growth.

The federal government too heavily relies on the revenue from personal income tax, the federal treasurer writes in The Australian on Monday.

"We can't just view the tax system and taxpayers as a collection pool of unlimited funds," he says.
