Perth shoppers issued measles alert

A person who went to a Perth shopping centre earlier this week is confirmed to have measles and others are being warned to check for symptoms.

People who visited a suburban Perth shopping centre are being warned they're at risk of developing measles.

A person who visited the Livingston Marketplace at Canning Vale on April 8 between 1.40pm and 2.40pm and April 11 between 8.45am and noon is confirmed to have the illness and others are at risk of developing it if they are not immune, the Health Department warns.

People with measles typically develop symptoms about 10 days after being exposed to the virus, but this can vary from seven to 18 days.

Early symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose and sore eyes, followed by a red blotchy rash three or four days later. The rash usually starts on the face and spreads to the rest of the body.
