A woman has died in Perth after she became trapped trying to stop her car rolling into the street.

The 41-year-old had stopped her car on Thursday afternoon in the driveway of a Dianella house before getting out to open a garage door.

The car then began moving backwards and the woman tried to stop it rolling into the street but was struck by the car and fell to the ground before becoming trapped underneath.

Police say the car crashed into a wall before coming to a stop on the main carriageway of Grand Promenade.

The woman was taken to Royal Perth Hospital but unfortunately died a short time later.

Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward.
