Six young Australians wanted over the death of a man in Peru say they are not be required to return to the country to give statements.
The woman and five men, dubbed the "Peru Six", say three superior judges in Lima have granted their appeal to give their statements from Australia under the International Co-Operation Procedure.
"This is a really important win for us and we are so happy and relieved," the group said on Facebook on Tuesday.
The students used their Facebook page Completely Wrongly Accused to call for public support after they became suspects in the death of a doorman who fell from the balcony of a Lima hotel in 2012.
Hugh Hanlon, Tom Hanlon and Jessica Vo, of Melbourne, and Sydney trio Sam Smith, Harrison Geier and Andrew Pilat launched a social media campaign to clear their names after finding out they were wanted by police months after returning from their backpacking trip.
The group is now working on their defence with the next hearing set for November 5.
