Hollywood A lister George Clooney says he believes celebrities will rally in support of those affected by the Typhoon Haiyan, as they did for earthquake-ravaged Haiti and New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
"We did the Golden Globes a week before we did the Haiti telethon and we were able to sort of rally some troops around and we'll see what goes on from here and see what we're able to do. It's just happened a day ago so we're figuring it out," Clooney said on Sunday.
Speaking at the Britannia Awards on Saturday night in Los Angeles, Clooney said he's following the news about Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the eastern seaboard of the Philippines on Friday. As many as 10,000 people are believed dead in one Philippine city alone from one of the worst storms ever recorded.
"It's terrible," said Clooney on the red carpet. "And it's headed towards Vietnam and we'll see what happens there. It's a terrible disaster."
The Academy Award winner said there's no way to know if global warming was responsible for the typhoon, denying the existence of climate change is "ridiculous".
"Well, it's just a stupid argument," Clooney told reporters.
Stars took to twitter on Sunday to offer their thoughts and prayers for the victims of the typhoon, including singer Rihanna and actors Sarah Jessica Parker and Kevin Bacon.
"My very best to all in the Philippines. I met some wonderful friends while visiting. The news from there is devastating," Parker tweeted.
Bacon wrote on Twitter, "Please help: join me to support Typhoon Haiyan relief."
R&B star Rihanna, who recently visited South East Asia as part of her world tour, reached out to her fans, writing, "Navy please keep the people of The Philippines in your prayers. I was just there and this truly breaks my heart".
