A photographer has gone to extreme lengths to capture a stomach-turning selfie on top of one of Hong Kong's tallest buildings.

Video footage posted to YouTube shows photographer Daniel Lau holding "selfie stick" - a camera mounted on a stick - on top of The Centre skyscraper while two friends sit at his feet eating bananas.

Mr Lau can be seen moving the stick from side to side, showcasing the vast cityscape stretching out behind them.

The skyscraper stands at 346 metres tall and is Hong Kong's fifth-tallest building.

The video was uploaded to YouTube last week and has since been viewed more than 600,000 times.

Comments under the video range from congratulatory to horrified.

"This video is extremely uncomfortable for me to watch. Obviously these kids are developing an ever higher tolerance toward adrenaline," one commenter wrote.

"I just peed in my pants a little bit watching that," wrote another.
