French Formula One driver Charles Pic will not compete in the 2014 season for the Caterham-Renault team, Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul told French television on Monday.

"Unfortunately Charles won't be with us next season. It's a pity that the adventure between Caterham and Charles is ending. On a personal level I want to thank Charles for the work he achieved last year," Abiteboul told Infosport+, part of the Canal+ group.

Pic, 23, began his career in 2012 with Marussia before joining Caterham the following year.

Abiteboul added that Pic, who has scored no points in two seasons, "has some talent which can develop in a more important, mature team".

According to Canal+, Japan's Kamui Kobayashi, formerly of Sauber, who did not have a drive last season, should be confirmed on Tuesday as Pic's replacement.

In two seasons, Pic has competed in 38 Formula One Grands Prix, with his best finish a 12th in Brazil in 2012 with Marussia. He could find a place as a reserve test driver with Lotus.
