'Pies axe Cox, as Tigers drop three in AFL

Collingwood and Richmond have made big changes for Thursday night's big AFL match at the MCG.

Collingwood have decided to lop some of the tall timber in their attack, dropping Mason Cox for Thursday night's big AFL clash with Richmond.

Cox is the most surprising change as the Magpies and Tigers make a combined five changes, four of them unforced.

The American combined with Darcy Moore and Jesse White as Collingwood's key forward options in their round-one loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Collingwood also lose Travis Varcoe to suspension, while James Aish and Tim Broomhead come into the side.

Aish was a late withdrawal last week because of illness. Broomhead has not played senior football since round seven last season.

Ankle and shoulder injuries meant Broomhead only managed two games last year.

The first-round draft pick has only played 21 games since his 2014 debut, but the Magpies have signed the utility for another two years.

While Richmond opened the season with a regulation win over lowly Carlton, they dropped three players.

Taylor Hunt, Kamdyn McIntosh and Sam Lloyd make way for Ben Lennon, Jayden Short and Kane Lambert.
