Pilkadaris cruising towards NZ golf title

Australian Terry Pilkadaris is streets ahead after the New Zealand Open's third round, sitting five shots in front on 24-under overall.

Australian Terry Pilkadaris is well on his way to a New Zealand Open title after streaking ahead of the pack in Saturday's third round.

Pilkadaris is on 24-under overall after his third-round nine-under-par 62 at Millbrook Resort, five shots ahead of compatriot Callan O'Reilly.

O'Reilly, who secured a course-record 11-under par 61 at The Hills on Friday, is on 19-under overall, one shot ahead of Daniel Nisbet.

Australians have earned five of the top six positions in Queenstown on Saturday, with only American Jarin Todd keeping the pace.

44-year-old Pilkadaris appears more than likely to pick up his first Asian Tour title in 13 years, having last won the 2005 Brunei Open.

He putted the house down from Saturday's first hole to the 18th, despite suffering from an upset stomach that caused a back-nine delay.

"That was unbelievable - I was hitting some putts towards the end there and they were going in and I was like, wow," Pilkadaris said.

"I was just trying not to get in my own way in the end."
