A pilot died after his light aircraft crashed while crop dusting in Victoria.

A pilot has died after his crop-dusting plane crashed, flipped over and caught on fire in Victoria.

The crash took place on a property in Darlington, near Mortlake, about 9.30am on Friday.

A CFA spokeswoman said the plane was upside down and on fire when crews arrived.

Emergency services cordoned off the area amid fears there were dangerous chemicals inside the plane.

The pilot died at the scene, a police spokeswoman told AAP.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau will investigate the accident.
