A man is dead and a five-year-old girl has been critically injured when an ultralight aircraft crashed into a home south-east of Melbourne.
It is believed the aircraft had taken off from Tyabb regional airport shortly before it plummeted into a house on Seaview Road on Sunday afternoon.
Hastings police Acting Senior Sergeant Blair Jeans said a 44-year-old Mornington Peninsula man steering the weight-shift powered hang glider was a licensed pilot who likely died on impact.
The five-year-old girl, a passenger in the aircraft, suffered multiple fractures in the crash and was airlifted to the Royal Children's Hospital.
She was conscious and in extreme pain when emergency crews arrived, Det Sen Sgt Jeans told AAP on Sunday.
The girl remains in a critical condition with injuries to her upper body, Ambulance Victoria spokesman Ray Rowe said on Sunday.
No one was in the house at the time.
Police would not comment on the cause of the crash which is under investigation.
