Pilot ejects as US jet crashes in England

A US Air Force pilot has ejected safely as his fighter jet went down and crashed in a field in England.

A US Air Force pilot has escaped serious injury after ejecting as his fighter jet came down in a field in England.

Emergency services were called to the crash site near Broadgate in Weston Hills, Lincolnshire, at about 3.30pm local time on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the US Air Force's 48 Fighter Wing based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk confirmed that one of its F-15s came down during a training exercise.

He added: "The pilot ejected and is safe."

Lincolnshire Police said the pilot appeared to have escaped with very minor injury and had left the scene by helicopter.

"The plane has come down in an isolated rural area and no premises have been affected," a spokesman said.

"A cordon has been put in place and the public are advised to avoid the area as the plane is alight and the fumes may be hazardous."
