Chris Kunitz scored in double overtime as the Pittsburgh Penguins reached the Stanley Cup final with a thrilling 3-2 win in game seven against the Ottawa Senators.
Kunitz struck five minutes and nine seconds into the second extra period to clinch a 4-3 series win and keep Pittsburgh's defence of the cup alive.
It was first time a conference final needed a second overtime in a game seven since the New York Rangers beat the New Jersey Devils on their way to winning the cup in 1994.
The defending champions twice took the lead, first through Kunitz and then thanks to Justin Schultz's powerplay goal.
But Ottawa hit back each time, Mark Stone taking just 20 seconds to reply to Kunitz's second-period effort before Ryan Dzingel forced overtime.
One extra 20-minute period was not enough to separate the teams but Pittsburgh eventually prevailed to set up a seven-game series with the Nashville Predators, when the Penguins will look to become the first back-to-back champions since the Detroit Red Wings in 1998.
