Plan to boost education exports

The federal government believes international education can grow into a major export industry.

The Abbott government wants international education to become a $30 billion export industry by the end of the decade.

It will do that with a new national strategy, open for feedback until the end of May, and a cross-portfolio council bringing together the ministers for education, training, immigration, trade, foreign affairs and industry.

Education Minister Christopher Pyne says the overall aim is to make Australia an even more popular destination for students around the world looking to attend university in a foreign country.
