A passenger jet has landed safely at Brisbane Airport after issuing a mayday distress call.

The Etihad Airbus A330-200, was en route to Singapore from Brisbane, when it returned to the Queensland capital around 2.30pm (AEST).

An Etihad Airways spokesperson told SBS News that the plane "returned to ground to have a fault rectified" and that it was "routine".

"[The] Etihad Airways flight EY 473 from Brisbane to Singapore returned to Brisbane due to a flight deck instrument failure. The flight crew followed all standard operational procedures, declared an emergency, and made a precautionary landing."

The spokesperson says no injuries have been reported.

"The aircraft landed without incident and all passengers and crew are safe. Passengers are being rebooked to continue their journey on alternate carriers."
