Seattle linebacker Bruce Irvin has been fined $US10,000 ($A12,815) for igniting a scuffle at the end of the Super Bowl.

The New England Patriots were trying to run out the clock after Malcolm Butler's win-sealing interception in Arizona on Sunday when some tempers flared.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was trying to take a knee and let the clock run out when Irvin got into a shoving match with Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Irvin, who was ejected from the contest and later apologised, was one of four players fined, and suffered the heaviest penalty.

Team-mate Michael Bennett was fined $US8,268 ($A10,595), as were Gronkowski and fellow Patriots tight end Pat Michael Hoomanawanui.
