Plenty of Geelong threats in final: Swans

Sydney coach John Longmire admits superstar Patrick Dangerfield will be one of many headaches for his coaching panel as they plot the downfall of Geelong.

Sydney coach John Longmire will put a mountain of work into planning for all of Geelong's threats, not just those posed by Patrick Dangerfield.

Limiting the influence of Dangerfield in Friday night's AFL preliminary final is sure to be a hot topic at the SCG this week.

The Swans won their only clash with the Cats during the regular season, prevailing by 38 points in Geelong.

Dangerfield collected 18 disposals in the first quarter of that round-16 meeting, after which Tom Mitchell was moved onto the Brownlow medal favourite.

Longmire noted his side couldn't afford to ignore the Cats' other potential match-winners as they bid to secure a grand final berth.

"If you look at Dangerfield and try and control him then (Joel) Selwood bobs up. Then someone else might bob up," Longmire said.

"We'll prepare as we normally do. We'll put enormous amount of attention into the opposition, all of their players.

"Obviously Dangerfield is a really important one, but so is Selwood. So is Tom Hawkins, so is their defence. We'll look at all their strengths."

Longmire was full of respect for Chris Scott's side.

"They're always a tough task .. they've won a heap of games in a row. They're in absolute red-hot form," he said.

"But we know if we make the decision to play with the sort of ferocity that we played with on Saturday night that it gives us every possible chance.

"There's no room for error. You've got to be fierce at the ball, fierce at the man with the ball to give yourselves a chance."
