Plunkett's series in doubt after injury

England quick Liam Plunkett is unlikely to play in the final two games of the one-day series after sustaining a hamstring injury.

England are likely to be without pace bowler Liam Plunkett for the final two games of the one-day series after he suffered a hamstring injury in their 16-run victory at the SCG.

Plunkett limped from the field in just his second over with the ball on Sunday night and did not return.

With the series now wrapped up 3-0, it seems unlikely the 32-year-old will return for the visitors in the next week.

With a shortage in part-time bowlers outside their five chief attackers, England did well to escape Sunday night's match with victory as they defended 6-302.

Joe Root, the only English top-six batsman with an international wicket to his name, got through 8.4 overs while conceding just 60 runs to keep the visitors in the contest.

"Liam going down was a bit of a hammer blow but Joe stood up and all the bowlers contributed at different times," captain Eoin Morgan said.

"It was a matter of getting as many overs out of Joe as possible without Australia pressing the button against a really good part-time bowler.

"He managed to sustain that and managed to bowl two spells.

"At no stage did Australia bring the run rate down quite considerably which would have meant bringing one of our better bowlers on earlier than intended."

England also have quicks Jake Ball, Tom Curran and David Willey in reserve in their squad for the matches in Adelaide on Friday and Perth on Sunday.

Meanwhile Plunkett is also a member of England's Twenty20 squad to play in the tri-series against Australia and New Zealand.
