As people continue to lay flowers at Sydney's Matin Place, Prime Minister Tony Abbott and his wife Margie have visited the scene briefly.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott and wife Margie have visited the floral tribute laid in Martin Place to two hostages killed in a dramatic siege.

The Abbotts placed two large bouquets at the front of the shrine before making their way to the condolence book tables.

They were at the site for about five minutes and left after penning a tribute.
