Prime Minister Scott Morrison has urged Britain's Conservative Party to resolve Brexit after wishing outgoing leader Theresa May well in their final bilateral meeting.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of commemorations for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasions of occupied France in Portsmouth on Wednesday.

Mr Morrison discussed aid projects and development programs in the Pacific region before farewelling Ms May in what is likely to be their last one-on-one meeting.

"I wished her all the best in her future and she is always welcome in Australia from Australians," he said of his conversation with Ms May.

"And I've enjoyed my working relationship with her as did my predecessor."

The prime minister wished the Tories all the best in their process of choosing a new leader, but reminded them of the importance of sorting out Brexit.

"I have no doubt that they'll get about that as quickly as they can," Mr Morrison said.

"It's another area of instability that obviously for the global economy, but particularly in this part of the world, needs some resolution."

He said there were many countries that wanted to see Brexit resolved to give more certainty to the global economy and strengthen confidence.

Mr Morrison also met with French President Emmanuel Macron and discussed the aid and development in the Pacific, as well as Australia's order of 12 submarines from French state-owned company Naval Group.
