Prime Minister Tony Abbott insists Australia is the best place for Indonesia to source beef cattle.

His comments come as Indonesia's new trade minister reportedly moves to import between 200,000 and 300,000 head of cattle to drive down prices.

Mr Abbott, visiting a farm near Yass in southern NSW on Wednesday, told reporters the Australian live cattle export trade is back on track despite some hiccups under the previous Labor government.
