PM to announce RAAF base funding

The prime minister is visiting the NSW Hunter Valley, starting at RAAF base Williamtown, where he'll announce spending on new infrastructure.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott will visit the major RAAF base Williamtown outside Newcastle on Wednesday to announce $274 million in new buildings and facilities to support the new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft.

That's just part of the almost $1 billion the government plans to spend to upgrade the base which will be home to most of the 72 JSF aircraft which start arriving in three years time.

Mr Abbott is also expected to head up the Hunter Valley to visit storm-damaged Dungog and preside over a citizen of the year ceremony.
